From aviation instruments to icons, in 1952 Willy Breitling developed a wrist-mounted chronograph with a rotating slide rule that allowed pilots to make all the calculations necessary for flight. The design was announced as the official timepiece design of the International Association of Owners and Pilots (AOPA) and was named "Navitimer". As a virtual pilot's watch, the Navitimer was used by airline captains and aviation enthusiasts, and in 1962, it was worn on the wrist of astronaut Scott Carpenter and even advanced into space. And it wasn't just pilots who were drawn to the watch's irresistible beauty, it was worn by Miles Davis and other celebrities of the day, proving that the Navitimer could combine function and style.
