Caliber 1861 (1863), the movement installed in Omega's hand-wound Speedmaster, will be discontinued.
The story has become a reality.
Here and here are the installed models.
Yes, we all know these two types.
That's because, on the evening of the final day of the Omega Grand Ambassador Seminar that I attended the other day, such a story popped up.
About six people who were there already gathered
-----------------------------
ΩΩΩ<What the hell!?
-----------------------------
you know.
The Speedmaster equipped with this caliber 1861 is a truly long-lived name movement that has been used since the 6th generation manufactured in 1996.
*The original caliber 861 was manufactured in 1968.
The Speedmaster is the only watch that has been manufactured for over 50 years from the mid-1960s to the present day with virtually no change in case shape, size, dial design, or movement.
Now let's take a quick look at the timeline.
>>It's too long, so here it is
The hand-wound chronograph movement currently installed in Omega is
・Caliber 1861, 1863
・Caliber 1869
・Caliber 3861
・Caliber.321←NEW (resurrection)
There are currently 5 types.
Moreover, since everything is installed in the Speedmaster, the other day
"The number of hand-wound moves has increased."
“Since there are a lot of them, some of them may disappear.”
I was just talking to
I never thought it would become a reality.
In the watch magazine Chronos, there was an article saying, "In reprinting the Caliber.321, we have moved the manufacturing location from Lorient to Bienne, so what will happen to the supply in the future?" 1863) will really disappear.
Now, let me briefly explain the two models mentioned above.
The ref.311.30.42.30.01.005 on the left is made of an acrylic glass called Hesalite, considering its use in outer space, as the two names for the moon watch indicate.
The fact that all the Speedmasters that went to the moon used Hesalight makes this model even more attractive.
Furthermore, on the back cover of this model
"FLIGHT-QUALIFIED BY NASA FOR ALL MANNED SPACE MISSIONS",
It says , "Qualified for flight on all NASA manned space programs."
There are as many watches as there are stars in the world, but only this Speedmaster has such a thing written on it! And the movement is Caliber 1861. hot!
The ref.311.30.42.30.01.006 on the right has the glass part changed to a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, and the famous Caliber 1863 can be seen from the back at any time. It is a specification that tickles the hearts of watch lovers.
On this back cover
"THE FIRST WATCH WORN ON THE MOON",
It is said to be the first watch worn on the moon .
I can't believe I can see the movement of a thin hand-wound chronograph! I want to operate the chronograph in vain! I am driven by the urge.
By the way, the difference between Caliber 1861 and 1863 is the color of the parts.
Color only.
It was too late that night when the 1861 (1863) production was discontinued, so I couldn't ask when it would be gone, but I think there will be an announcement sometime this year sooner or later.
In any case, when Caliber.1861 (1863) is discontinued, the familiar hand-wound Speedmaster will disappear.
I think that the successor machine will probably be sold with the Master Chronometer's super anti-magnetic movement Caliber.3861, so the price is likely to rise.
In the first place, the price of 550,000 yen excluding tax with the caliber 1861 is also exceptional.
The Speedmaster is the only watch that has been manufactured for over 50 years from the mid-1960s to the present day with virtually no change in case shape, size, dial design, or movement.
There are many famous watches, but the great thing about this Speedmaster is that when we fell in love with watches, there was already a Speedmaster as we know it today.
Speaking of "Speedmaster Professional", it always comes up when it comes to famous chronographs in watch magazines and on the web.
This year, the Speedmaster Professional will reach a major turning point.
