Based on the brand concept of "Elegance, Technology", OCEANUS "Manta", which pursues high-quality finish and thin and beautiful form, incorporates the beauty of maki-e into the design with the theme of innovation and fusion of traditional Japanese crafts. Introducing the OCW-S5000MB.
Maki-e is a traditional technique of drawing pictures and patterns with gold or silver powder. This model was developed and manufactured by Mr. Yutaro Shimode, a traditional craftsman from Kyoto.
Combining OCEANUS blue and maki-e, the image of a scene where water falls from a waterfall and splashes is created.
The sapphire glass of the bezel is decorated with a design named by Mr. Shimode, “Makibokeshi Takimon” using platinum.
The platinum powder used also pursues the sparkle when it is made into a product, and after considering various sizes, we chose size 2, which is flat.
All are handmade by Mr. Shimode, so no two are the same.
The sapphire glass of the bezel has a blue-black gradation vapor deposition between the 2 o'clock position and the 8 o'clock position to give the lacquer work a sense of dynamism. The dial is inspired by the maki-e technique of mother-of-pearl (Raden) and was originally developed to express the scene of water falling down while shining brightly.
In terms of functionality, in addition to adjusting the time on the watch itself with the standard radio wave reception function, it is equipped with a time adjustment function with a smartphone link using Bluetooth ®. You can easily set the time of the world time from about 300 cities, and automatically respond to changes in the time zone and daylight saving time. These high-performance functions are housed in a slim case with a thickness of 9.3 mm, creating a thin and beautiful form.

Born in Kyoto in 1955.
The third generation of the maki-e studio Shimode Maki-e Shisho, which was established in 1912 (Meiji 45).
Traditional Craftsman, Ph.D., Professor Emeritus at Kyoto Sangyo University. Inheriting traditional techniques, he is involved in the production of Shinto lacquer lacquer and sacred treasures.
At the Kyoto State Guest House, he produced platinum maki-e furnishings such as "Eternal Whispering."
Engages in the creation of maki-e works, conservation and restoration of cultural properties, research on lacquer art, lectures on lacquer and literature, and writing activities.
