[Our shop only! ] Moritz Grossmann cornerstone limited model release

Moritz Grossmann's cornerstone limited model that we have been working on since last year. It took a lot of time to complete the dial and hands, but now all the models have arrived.

The champagne-colored dial with a sunray finish, bar index, stepped railway minute scale, and hands that are made only for this limited model have been changed to a simpler shape, and the combination of needle colors is different for all four models.

[Attractive square movement]

"Cornerstone", which has the meaning of foundation, foundation, and essential, is the brand's first square model. Instead of an existing movement, it is equipped with a special movement "Caliber 102.3" designed from the ground up for this model.

Since square movements are not versatile, there are few places that make them even with full-fledged mechanical brands, making them a valuable presence. It is a movement that could only be realized by Moritz Grossmann, whose production numbers are in the hundreds.

Despite its compact size, it has a large barrel and a power reserve of about 60 hours. It doesn't reach the 3-day volume, which is common these days, but it's doing well with 2 and a half days.

[finishing the needle]

Speaking of Moritz Grossmann "needle". In-house production is rare, and the first cut is machined, but after that, it is a daunting task.

Since the edges are sharp when cut out, each needle is polished using a diamond file or paper file. The tip of the needle is extremely sharp and you can get a glimpse of the greatness of manual work.

Next, polish with a rotating tool with wood or felt stuck in it. If this process is sloppy, spots will appear during tempering, so polish thoroughly.

The last is tempering. Color is added by holding it over an alcohol lamp and burning it. As with this limited edition model, Moritz Grossmann uses brown and brown violet instead of the usual blue. Moritz Grossmann deliberately uses a color that has a shorter burning time margin than blue and is difficult to reproduce stably.

In addition, the thickness and width of the needles vary depending on the location, so temperature differences are likely to occur, and the color changes even with preheating. It seems that it takes 2 to 3 hours to complete one hand, and the 3-hand (hour, minute, second) model takes a whole day.

*From 2 minutes 44 seconds onwards, the production process of the hands.
