① Let's do multiplication

First, let's do multiplication using a slide rule.

This time it's just a simple calculation, so it's easy to explain, so I'd like to try it without a chronograph.



Multiplication is done in base 10, unlike clock base 60, so 10 is used first.



Use the inner 10 instead of the outer.

Let's try 4x8.
Bring the first 4 over the 10 you said you would use earlier.
* 40 outside 10 is considered as 4.
Then look for 8. So now we have 32 above 8 and we can easily find the answer.




What do you think?

I think that there are people who think it was easy, and there are people who find it difficult to think of 40 as 4. If you actually continue to use it, you can easily calculate it by simply rotating the bezel.

②Let's do division

Now let's do the division.
Division is easier than multiplication. Just arrange the numbers on the outside and inside as ◯÷◯.

For example, 20÷5

Line up the slide rule 20 and 50 with the outside and inside facing each other .
Again, 50 is considered as 5.


Then the answer will be above 10.

In this case, the outside of 10 is 40, but it is seen as 4 as in the previous note.

20÷5=4.







You just have to remember that the answer is above 10 on the outside (dividable) and inside (dividable).

This is the division.

In both slide rules, the inner 10 is important, multiplication is the number that can be multiplied outside 10, and division is the answer outside 10.
