WATCH

Are watches made today?

As the economy recovers, the consumption of watches is increasing, but some brands are not keeping up with demand. So why can't we? I thought of a few reasons.

[Parts missing]

A mechanical watch is an industrial product made up of many parts. If even one part is missing, it will not be completed. For example, dials, hands, complex parts, etc., bottlenecks vary by model and can be multiple. If everything is produced in-house, it can be made systematically, but most brands have different suppliers for each part, so the parts may not arrive in a timely manner.

[No maker]

It's not just watch brands, but I've heard that technicians were laid off because consumption didn't grow due to the corona crisis. It's time for full operation! Even so, those who are laid off seem to move to a different occupation or a place with a higher salary even in the same industry. This is not limited to brands, but of course suppliers as well, creating a chain of labor shortages.

[Are you not distributing it intentionally? ]

You may think that some brands are better off not on the market. In general, in capitalism, the more difficult things are to obtain, the more valuable and expensive they become. Is it more important than short-term sales because of brand value?

Personally, I am concerned about the revival of the production capacity of German watch brands. The craftsmen have been taken to Switzerland, and the electricity that runs the factory is inconvenient.
